Free football manager game: what OFM really costs

Like most free games, OFM is funded by optional purchases and adverts. Here is an honest overview of what you get without spending a penny and what the premium currency Kixx is for.

What you get for free

• Your own club with a squad, a stadium and club grounds
• A matchday in your league every day, plus the cup, World Cup, FunCups and friendlies
• Line-up, tactics and training without restrictions
• The full transfer market and your youth academy
• The live match report for every match
• The app for iPhone and Android
• A welcome pack when you start, with extra starting capital and 200 additional stadium seats

That is the complete game. There is no competition and no league that is reserved for paying managers.

What Kixx are for

Kixx are OFM’s premium currency. You can buy them in the shop, win a few with a bit of luck from the Daily Login Bonus or receive them through voucher codes from promotions. With Kixx you can cut waiting times, buy items such as training aids or rename players. Kixx never expire and stay in your account until you spend them.

What Kixx cannot buy you is a good line-up, the right tactics or smart transfers. Whether your club goes up comes down to the choices you make on the pitch and with your finances. Kixx make some things faster or more convenient, but you still have to win the matches yourself.

Staff: optional extras

With Kixx you can also hire up to five staff members, such as an Assistant Coach or a Financial Advisor, each for 160 Kixx for 14 days. They bring benefits such as extra training points, better interest rates, more detailed statistics and a kit designer. Hiring them is an option, not a requirement. Without staff you play the same competitions under the same rules.

Extras without paying

Even without buying anything there are regular rewards:

• Daily Login Bonus Every day you take shots at the goal wall and win prizes, sometimes Kixx too.
• Optional videos In many places in the game you can choose to watch a short ad and get a reward for it, such as a shorter waiting time in the youth academy or fitness for your players.
• Events Tournaments such as the Weekend League come with their own prizes, which you can win without paying; an optional WeekendPass adds extra rewards.

2. Create an account with your email address and a password, or directly with your Google or Apple account. You don’t need to enter any payment details.
3. If you signed up with email, confirm it: you receive a six-digit code and enter it in the game.
4. Name your club and pick its country. Your club plays its first match the following night.

Frequently asked questions about playing for free

Is OFM really free?

Yes. Every competition and all core features are free. Buying Kixx is entirely optional. Managers who never buy anything play in the same leagues for the same titles.

Can I play without signing up?

No, because your club plays a match every day and has to belong to your account. Signing up is free, though, takes about a minute and also works with Google or Apple, without a new password.

Do I need to download anything for my PC?

No. On your PC you play OFM directly in the browser without installing anything. For your phone there is also a free app. More in our guide to the football manager browser game.

Is there a subscription or are there hidden costs?

No. There is no subscription that renews itself, and you only pay for what you choose to buy.

Can I win promotion and titles without paying?

Yes. Promotion, the cup and the World Cup are decided by your line-up, training, transfers and finances.
